It's not about neighborhood issues, but Hilary's complaint reminded me of my
own, which is now two years old.

The police did absolutely NOTHING about a road rage incident where a big
beefy guy came out of his car (during a totally nonmoving traffic jam) and
HIT ME (I'm a little bitty female), then STOLE THE KEYS out of my ignition
and THREW THEM OVER THE EMBANKMENT into the night, then continued to
THREATEN AND HARRASS me for about 20 more minutes until we started moving
again.

We had witnesses, license number, vehicle ID, etc. I reported it at the
substation. Nothing. I followed up with HPD over a period of weeks.
Nothing. Even went downtown to their office. Nothing. Annise Parker even
got pissed off over the story, and tried to use her influence with the cops.
NOTHING.

"To Serve and Protect" Yeah. Sure.

<
< Hilary,
<
< I'm sorry that you had that experience w/ the HPD storefront.
<
< The guy in charge of the storefront is Sgt. Vollert. Call the storefront
< again (713-284-8604) during the weekday and ask for him or Officer Sobota.
< They now have the ability to write citations on neighborhood issues like
< vacant lots.
<
< Also, when you talk w/ Sgt. Vollert, give him the time(s) you called
before
< and he'll find the officer that gave you the poor response.
<
< If anything, send me the addresses of the vacant lots and I'll take it
< personally to Sgt. Vollert, since I'm there every week about something..
And
< this is one of those things, the public's (us) perception of how they
(HPD)
< is perceived in fulfilling their community outreach role by having a
< location in the neighborhood. Sometimes it doesn't click, and the Sgt. and
I
< want to know why.
<
< At this Tuesday night's Neartown meeting (7pm - Cherryhurst Park Community
< Center) HPD senior officers will be there to give a preliminary report on
< the enhanced police presence and foot patrols project in our area. Your
< opportunity again to describe the response you received and anything else.
<
< Thanks
