FPL ENERGY TO BUILD 1,789-MW PLANT NEAR DALLAS

FPL Energy, a unit of FPL Group, announced Tuesday details of its purchase of
a majority stake in a 1,789-megawatt power plant being developed 20 miles
east of Dallas.

FIRSTENERGY SAYS GPU DEAL STILL ON TRACK FOR MID-SUMMER

FirstEnergy Corp.'s $4.5 billion cash-and-stock acquisition of GPU Inc. is
still on schedule to be completed in the first half of this year, the
company's chief financial officer said Tuesday.

TEXAS RETAIL ELECTRIC PILOT PROGRAM FACES START-UP WOES

Texas' retail electric pilot program, scheduled to begin June 1, suffers from
a limited number of active power suppliers and a lack of consumer awareness,
but those problems aren't expected to hamper the debut of full power
competition next year, a regulatory attorney said Tuesday.

POWERGEN TO SELL ASSETS TO NRG ENERGY FOR GBP 130M

U.K. electricity firm Powergen PLC said Tuesday that it has signed an
agreement to sell its mining and power station interests in Germany and
Hungary to NRG Energy Inc. for a total consideration of GBP130 million.

MITSUI, IHI NEGOTIATING INDIAN POWER PLANT ORDER

A consortium of Mitsui & Co. and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. are
in the final stage of negotiating a contract to construct six 660-megawatt
coal-fueled electric power plants, the largest in India, the Nihon Keizai
Shimbun reported in its Tuesday evening edition, citing sources of the two
firms speaking Tuesday.
