Under intense pressure to increase California's energy supply, Gov. Gray
Davis is expected to announce today his support for Calpine Corp.'s proposed
South San Jose power plant -- a move that could ensure the state's most
controversial power project is built.

NORTHWEST U.S. BRACES FOR SUMMER ONSLAUGHT OF ELECTRICITY CRISIS

Prices for wholesale electricity to be delivered this summer and fall are
hitting unheard of heights, spurred upward by the Northwest drought and
anticipation of more shortages ahead for California.

CALPINE CORP.: ENCAL ENERGY LTD. - CALPINE AND ENCAL ENERGY ANNOUNCE
COMPLETION OF MERGER

Encal Energy Ltd. and Calpine Corporation announced that the merger of the
two companies has been completed.

ECOWATT ANNOUNCES 20 MEGAWATT BIOMASS-FUELED POWER PLANT TARGETED FOR
MARYLAND'S EASTERN SHORE; PLANT WILL MEET LOCAL POWER NEEDS; ANSWER WASTE
MANAGEMENT CONCERNS AND PROVIDE LOCAL JOBS

ECOwatt, a Maryland based developer of community-based, biomass-fueled power
projects, announces that it has selected the Eastern Shore as the site for a
20 megawatt distributed generation power plant.

WILLIAMS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO DEVELOP POWER GENERATION FACILITY IN GEORGIA

A unit of Williams today announced plans to develop a 1,230 megawatt natural
gas-fired power generation plant near Fairburn, Georgia.

END TO DEREGULATION OF NEVADA POWER

Gov. Kenny Guinn signed a bill Wednesday that would stop the sale of Nevada
power plants, halt deregulation and bail out struggling utilities with a new
rate system.
