TEXAS BILL TO RETURN STRANDED COSTS GAINS SUPPORT

A bill in the Texas Legislature that could force three large Texas electric
utilities to return billions of dollars to rate payers gained support from
the Royal Dutch/Shell Group and Enron Corp. Tuesday.

BUSH SAYS ENVIRONMENTAL IMAGE BIGGEST SETBACK SO FAR

President George W. Bush Wednesday said he regards missteps over the
environment as one of the biggest mistake so far in his presidency but
insisted that he will turn around the public perception that he isn't
concerned about environmental issues.

NEW ENGLAND POWER MARKET PLAYERS MEET WEDNESDAY ON THORNY PENALTY

State regulators, utilities and generators from New England will meet
Wednesday to begin settlement talks over a controversial power-market penalty
that has pitted generators against utilities.

MID-ATLANTIC PUC'S IN ELECTRIC-COMPETITION STANDARDS GROUP

Public utility commissions from the Mid-Atlantic states have formed a
regional group to maintain uniform standards for competition among electric
companies, the Pennsylvania PUC announced Wednesday.

WYTHE COUNTY, VIRGINIA, LOCATION CHOSEN TO BUILD GAS-FIRED POWER PLANT

Abundant water, large tracts of land, a potential natural gas pipeline and
access to a power grid have made Wythe County an attractive setting for a
gas-fired power plant.

SEVEN NEW POWER PLANTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION NEAR HERMISTON, OREGON

Oregon's energy future is rising out of the sagebrush and sand as utilities
and multinational companies rush to build at least a half-dozen huge new
power plants near this northeastern Oregon town.
