Washington Bureau Chief Peter Cook says there's a <b<long list of legislation ahead of energy</b< in the Democrat-controlled Senate, but <b<Republicans are threatening to force a vote through a filibuster</b<. In turn, <b<Democrats are saying they'll filibuster</b< any energy bill containing a provision to open <b<Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling</b<. The legislation battle continues next week. <p<Peter also says the Washington bureau will continue to follow the <b<FERC's major decisions</b< regarding how it assesses <b<market power</b<. The Commission announced a major change this week that will impact many of the <b<large and small utilities across the country</b<. <p<Also next week, we'll see what <b<<I<Energy Daily</I< Publisher Llewellyn King</b< has to say about <b<Pat Wood's performance</b< as Chairman of the FERC. And rumors are flying about <b<DOE Secretary Spencer Abraham -</b< on Monday, King talks about the whispers he's hearing in Washington. <p<ENL's Gale Smith will have a report from the Houston bureau next week on a <b<Louisiana company</b< that uses <b<rice hulls to create power</b<. <b<Agrilectric Incorporated</b< consumes some of this power, but most of the electricity is sold to an area utility company. We'll have details next week. <p<Also, Houston Correspondent Kim Benestante will bring us coverage from the <b<Alaska Resources Conference</b< taking place next Thursday and Friday. We'll also bring you details on the <b<final report regarding</b< the chosen route of the <b<Arctic natural gas pipeline</b<. The report is due to Alaska's Governor on November 30. <p<We'll hear from Center for <b<Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies Executive Director John White</b< next week. ENL's Kym McNicholas will speak with White about his organization's <b<opposition to the state's long-term power contracts</b<. Catch White from the West Coast bureau next week. <p<Closing Prices for Nov. 21, 2001: <p<Crude: $18.96 <br<Unleaded: $0.5273 <br<Heating Oil: $0.5342 <br<Natural Gas: $2.813 <p<Keep in mind things are subject to change at a moment's notice.
